‘Ancient Aliens’ Misinterpretation Of Ancient History

As a kid I became a UFO buff at nine after reading several books on the subject and hearing UFO stories from pilots and other trained observers. Most of my teachers thought that the idea of visitors from space was silly, but I knew better for reasons I go into in my book, The UFO Guy, that are too lengthy to explain here. However, that situation taught me that what we are often taught or encouraged to believe involves going up against the obvious historical and actual scientific evidence, in favor of supporting various popular theories.

The worst incident of complete historical ignorance came from a Social Studies teacher I had in Junior High. He said that there was no evidence of an ancient, higher civilization in North America. He made that statement during a time when educators sought to prove that Native Americans were the first to inhabit North America and that they taught the influx of Europeans how to survive.

He used examples such as the long houses some Northeastern tribes used to get through winters and some early European visitors used. However, he ignored or was blissfully unaware that evidence of early Viking visits to the Northeast in Canada and the USA prove otherwise. Vikings used longhouses in their own countries long before modern tribes immigrated to North America.

Sophisticated Pueblo housings in the Southwest were already present when modern tribes arrived. They had no idea who built them and told early Spanish Explorers that they were built by “those who came before.” Mounds in places like Ohio and various unidentified structures like a huge wall in Texas were also ignored. The human remains found at the Windover archaeological site in Florida are not disputed, just often ignored. They included some remains with brain matter intact. DNA results concluded that none were related to Native Americans. Instead, they were related to ancient humans in Scandinavia.

The greatest fallacy being fed to Viewers of series like ‘Ancient Aliens’ is that modern humans are the result of DNA manipulation by extraterrestrials. Google says it best…

“The show "Ancient Aliens" is not generally accepted by the scientific or historical community because it relies on speculation and misinterpretations of evidence rather than established scientific and historical facts. While the show presents intriguing ideas about potential alien influence on ancient civilizations, it often lacks concrete evidence and relies on conjecture and pseudoscientific claims.”

As a UFO researcher I have to objectively look at any ideas or theories concerning extraterrestrials based on the commonality of evidence. That commonality just doesn't support the kind of information being spread by ‘Ancient Aliens’ and shows like it. The major problem is that, from my perspective, the people propagating these theories ignore the possibility and probability that the ancient writings they refer to represent very sophisticated folklore and belief systems that are likely a lot more fiction than fact.

Ancient people tended to Deify that which they could not understand. Some of these constructs ended up being massive and fueled by misunderstood natural events. Others were likely based on early extraterrestrial encounters that ancient humans had no way of explaining due to a lack of scientific or background knowledge.

One of the biggest propagators of the extraterrestrial DNA theory was Zecharia Sitchin. I knew him for years and he was a guest on my Emmy nominated cable show sponsored by Time Life…

I respected his evidence for ancient extraterrestrial visits to Earth. His best-selling ‘Earth Chronicles’ series of books gave credence to ancient E.T. visitations…

Where we disagreed was with extraterrestrial DNA manipulation of humans. Again, most of the evidence he used to create that theory (which pseudo-experts like those on ‘Ancient Aliens’ copy and use today) came from ancient texts that were less historical and more theological (being connected to ancient Babylonian and Summarian belief systems). I did certainly agree that extraterrestrial visitors likely shared technological and scientific knowledge with ancient humans. There is ample evidence of this…
