WARNING: ADULT CONTENT... THE ART OF THE SMASH
The ART Of The
by Bill Knell
It's the THING everybody wants to do, and few want to talk about before or after the actual act. Most everybody wants to SMASH. Whether it's a casual roll in the hay, quickie in the maintenance closet, desk dive in your office, or a day and time designed to celebrate a special occasion, you can bet it's on someone's calendar. What is probably not on their calendar are some serious considerations that should be thought about before you both do the deed.
First, there are the psychological consequences. Will you consider the experience mutually acceptable no matter how happy, miserable or guilty you feel afterward? Will you use it to try and build a relationship that was only ever supposed to be a friendship or one night stand into something more? Will you try and blame your partner because they spoiled it for you, or blame yourself for not doing those extra little things that you or your partner likes?
Second, there are the physiological consequences. When I was in high school and college it quickly became very clear that SMASHING with certain people was a bad idea. That's because they were only concerned with the physical pleasure involved, without any worries about pregnancy or social diseases. Urinary Tract Infections are on the rise and, as with other infections, antibiotics are becoming less effective due to over use. A few years ago several students and teachers began to be charged and convicted for spreading HIV and that continues today.

Common Charges: Arrests typically involve "criminal exposure to HIV" or "intentional transmission," often carrying requirements for lifelong sex offender registration.

During the 1990s some films and TV shows included various HIV skits hoping to take some of the sting out of the subject without letting people forget that, even with some treatments available, it was still a serious problem not to be taken lightly.
Part of the art of the SMASH is avoiding the BLAME GAME. There is no such a thing as CASUAL SMASHING because, one way or another, there are going to be consequences. How serious those are depends on the participants. One thing for sure is NEVER allow yourself to be talked into or out of anything that will leave you or your partner with long-term problems that can easily be avoided by some up front decisions written in stone.
