Will DISCLOSURE DAY Wake Us Up or Put Us To Sleep?
Will DISCLOSURE DAY Wake Us Up or Put Us To Sleep?

If you are looking for good sci-fi movies it would be hard to argue against any made by Steven Spielberg, especially when the subject involves aliens. In 1977 he gave us “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” which combines facts and theories about UFOs, human and alien contact with good fictional side stories. It is both entertaining and informative. Entertaining is the key phrase. No one wants to watch some over-dramatized, convoluted documentary that attempts to include and explain every bizarre conspiracy theory about UFOs. Spielberg's ability to sort through the barrel and find the good apples is what makes him a great storyteller.
I have occasionally worked with him on projects like “War of the Worlds” and “E.T. The Extraterrestrial” in minor consultant roles involving development and promotion.
Those opportunities came about after Steven saw a video of one of my seminars in which I mentioned how a UFO was accidently filmed during his movie “Jaws”. He was intrigued and later set me up with an interview with Roy Scheider who had been one of the actors that saw it. Scheider was in a TV Role for “SeaQuest DSV” at the time which happened to be filming at Universal Studios in Florida. That's where I had a meeting with Scheider and Spielberg. Steven was kind enough to arrange a tour of the SeaQuest set for myself and my family. My kids also got to see and play around with a bunch of the props from “Jurassic Park”. When they went back to school that fall they had lots of photos to show and stories to tell about what they did that summer.
Steven Spielberg's 2026 summer movie "Disclosure Day” is a new and serious look at the idea of aliens introducing themselves to a world that might not be ready to accept their existence. This one is all Spielberg. He produces, directs and the film's screenplay is written by David Koepp based solely on a story by Steven Spielberg. The film stars Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Colman Domingo. Of what little I have seen it is definitely a serious film meant for people who want one. It's not a mind bending freakshow or one long video game. Still, it might not be wild enough for those ready to attack Area 51.
PEOPLE says,” Steven Spielberg will return to his alien roots with a new UFO movie, Disclosure Day. The plot of the film, which stars Emily Blunt, James O'Connor and Colin Firth, has been intentionally kept under wraps. The film will premiere in theaters on June 12, 2026. No one really knows what Disclosure Day is about — and that seems to be exactly what Steven Spielberg wants.
The acclaimed director's mysterious new UFO movie was first announced in April 2024, per Variety. At the time, details were scarce: The project would be based on Spielberg’s original idea. A year and a half later, that hasn’t changed. Even the first teaser trailer, released on Dec. 16, revealed almost nothing about the Universal Pictures movie.
Despite the lack of information, fans do know that Emily Blunt stars as an unnamed Kansas City meteorologist. And she's remaining just as tight-lipped as the film's director, whom she described as her "movie dad" in a November 2025 episode of Entertainment Weekly's The Awardist podcast. "It was very goose-bumpy when he called," the actress shared. "He kind of just said, 'We want you to play this part.' And I cried as I got in the car. I mean, I was just so moved." Blunt added that though filming with Spielberg was "awesome," she "hasn't seen anything" of the movie itself, which is set to release in theaters on June 12, 2026.”
The problem is what it's always been. We all watch films with certain expectations. Things that frighten one person are welcomed by another. Some enjoy nonstop action without much of a concern for a good storyline. The good news is that Steven Spielberg seems to have the pulse of what people like and delivers it to them. Enjoy this one because I don't think there will be many more quality films like it.
