UFO Politics and Presidents
UFO Politics and Presidents
by Bill Knell
Every so often someone in the world of politics gets involved with the subject of UFOs and Aliens. This mostly happens so they can attempt to cash in on the public's interest in such things, but a few are serious about bringing the truth about what governments know to light. Donald Trump stated that he would release classified files and footage related to UFOs if he is elected president. He made this promise during an interview with podcaster Lex Fridman in 2024. During the interview, Trump stated, "I'll do that. I would do that. I'd love to do that. I have to do that". Nothing so far, but who knows?
Despite his previous personal skepticism about alien visitations, Trump has mentioned that he has met "serious people" who report seeing strange things flying around. He has also indicated that his administration may declassify some information related to UAPs and said, "I'll have to think about that one" when asked about releasing information on the 1947 Roswell,NM, UFO Crash. Regarding pilot sightings, Trump responded, "I think our great pilots would know more about them than anyone". President Trump has been briefed on Navy pilot sightings of UAPs and called newly released military footage "a hell of a video".
In terms of modern era presidents, those who have actually seen UFOS include John F. Kennedy, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan. Their individual experiences probably made them less likely to become whistle blowers believing the public may not be prepared for whatever truth they uncovered. Those who tried may have faced deep state agencies not wanting that to happen.
In the case of JFK a popular theory alleges a connection between his sighting and his assassination. In 2011, a document surfaced that is a top-secret memo from Kennedy to the CIA director, dated November 12, 1963 (ten days before his death). The memo allegedly ordered the CIA to share its intelligence files on "unknowns" (UFOs) with his office and NASA. According to authors like William Lester, who claims to have found the memo while researching a book, Kennedy had concerns about Soviet knowledge on the subject and wanted to know all the facts our government had about UFOs. This may have caused some to erroneously believe that JFK had plans to tell the American people the truth, thus making him a target for assasination.
Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter famously reported a personal UFO sighting that occurred in Leary, Georgia, in 1969. He was an avid amateur astronomer who described the object as a very bright, color-changing light. As a former Navy Officer it would have been unlikely to expect him to reveal anything.
Ronald Reagan's association with UFOs stems from a personal sighting in 1974 and several later instances during his presidency when he mentioned an external, alien threat to world peace.
The problem of being a whistle blower politician backs up to the seemingly less than credible cranks whose backstories made them look bizarre to say the least. After claiming he had observed a UFO, met aliens and learned about their technology, Gabriel Green became seriously interested in extraterrestrials. He wasn't just a UFO Contactee and founder of the “Amalgamated Flying Saucer Clubs of America” in the 1950s, he also became an actual politician. Claiming inspiration from his own UFO encounters and the technology of the Aliens he met, Green sincerely believed that only by cooperating with them could humans save their own planet's future. He began his plan to run for president by stating, “I’m running for president because I was asked to do so by emissaries from outer space.”
Green proclaimed that he was further inspired by a speech given by President Kennedy at Houston's Rice University in September 1962. JFK told students that it was in the best interest of the US to aggressively pursue space exploration. Kennedy set a goal of humans reaching the moon by the end of the 1960s. “Why choose this as our goal?” Kennedy asked. “And they may well ask why climb the highest mountain? Why, 35 years ago, fly the Atlantic? Why does Rice play Texas? We choose to go to the moon…”
Green identified the aliens he met as being from Alpha Centauri and described them as human, but 7 to 9 feet tall. Green described them as “intelligent and benevolent”, but made sure that everyone understood that they possessed what Green described as the ability to completely conquer Earth in a matter of hours. He said, “They could completely take over this planet between breakfast and lunch any day of the year, but that would be a violation of their principles.”
He went on to explain that the aliens were content with acting as advisors to Green so humans could better understand their policies of peaceful coexistence and well being. According to him these aliens had already helped achieve societal utopia on Mars, Saturn, and Venus. “The aliens”, he added, “had tried to educate world leaders on earth before, but their wisdom was ignored.” Now, it was up to Green to try to get elected and enact the changes our planet needed.
“A spaceman from Alpha Centauri came to my Los Angeles apartment a few months ago and talked me into throwing my hat in the ring,” Green said. “He didn’t have any name. Everybody knows spacemen don’t have names. We exchanged telepathic opinions, and then he spoke in English with an American accent.” Green made it clear that he had met these beings and seen their mode of transport in action. His campaign manager had been taken along as a passenger, where he observed a crew of six; four men and two women. Why not just have an alien appear with him? Green dismissed the idea: “If he said he was from outer space nobody would believe him.”
Gabriel Green had a minor political career, unsuccessfully running for president of the United States in the 1960 and 1972 presidential elections, and for United States Senate in 1962. He attended Los Angeles City College and Woodbury Business College working as a photographer for the Los Angeles Board of Education until 1959, when he chose to fully focus on ufology. After claiming he had observed a UFO, Green became interested in extraterrestrial topics and in 1956 founded the “Los Angeles Interplanetary Study Groups” (LAISG), which published the "semi-religious" magazine “Thy Kingdom Come”. In 1959 the LAISG grew into the California-based “Amalgamated Flying Saucer Clubs of America” (AFSCA), with Green serving as its director. Green stated that the purpose of the AFSCA was to gain the UFO movement the prestige needed by demonstrating its size in order to pressure Congress to investigate incidents and release information.
He also hoped to "hold a national convention". A total number of 45 contactees spoke at the event including noted Contactee and author Daniel Fry.
In 1959, Green became president of the AFSCA. At its peak, the AFSCA comprised over 5,000 members across 24 countries. The group ceased to exist after the termination of its final publication in 1969, subsequently publishing only occasional information sheets.
The AFSCA continued to publish Thy Kingdom Come, renamed to World Report in 1959 and to UFO International in 1962. UFO International ceased publication in 1965. The AFSCA also published the periodical Flying Saucers International from 1962 to 1969. In 1967 Green published the book Let's Face Facts about Flying Saucers.

Green used his platform in the AFSCA to run in the 1960 United States presidential election, claiming to have done so at the behest of an alien named Rentan who represented the Universal Confederation of Planets. He ran under the Outer Space Party on a platform of "prior choice economics", an economic system he explained by stating, "Everything is or should be the sum total of all that has gone before". Under this system, Green claimed that there would be a complete abundance, universal health care, free college education, and full elimination of poverty. Sounds like outer space socialism. It seems obvious that the odd backstories of Contactees like Green and Fry differ wildly with the more believable sightings of Reagan, Carter and JFK causing them to tread carefully on the subject.
