Spontaneous Teleportation: Science or Supernatural?

Spontaneous Teleportation: SCIENCE or SUPERNATURAL?

by Bill Knell

Spontaneous Teleportation is the instantaneous movement of a person or object from one physical point to another. The science of this situation has yet to be worked out or understood, so I'll just say that most researchers believe the actual process allegedly involves the complete breakdown of a person or object at one point and its reassembling on arrival at another through an unknown process. This theory or explanation of the way ST works may or may not be true, but one thing for certain is that there are enough verified cases of ST to allow us to accept it as a legitimate phenomenon. For that reason I will make my case for the explanation and reality of it using verified cases.

In 1902 Alfredo and Paulo Pansini were seven and eight years old. They were the sons of architect Mauro Pansini and lived with their family near Ruvo, Italy. It was an agricultural area with vineyards and olive groves that was not a place previously known for any major unexplained or paranormal activity.

However, like many suburban places back in the day, the people there accepted unexplained, boredom busting things like ST from a religious standpoint based on the new and very popular teachings of Spiritualism as an inexpensive distraction. Spiritualism allowed for public and private gatherings designed to contact the dead. Like many others, The Pansini family (including the young boys) didn't find fault with attending a séance when one was held. A few days after their first séance seven year old Afredo began regularly going blank into a kind of seizure, then slipped into an altered state. During these trances he spoke in a strangely mature way using languages like French, Latin and Greek which were unknown to him. At one point he perfectly recited “The Divine Comedy”, a complicated epic poem by Dante.

During another trance Alfredo promised that a wonderful dinner would appear out of nowhere once the dinner table was set. Italian sausage and over a pound of cheese suddenly appeared on the table once it was ready. After a full medical examination the boy was placed in the boarding school of Bitonto and things remained mostly quiet for two years. However, if anyone looked at him, intending to ask a question, Afredo wrote down the answer before it was asked. This form of “automatic writing”  combined with his ability to psychically connect with others were just two of the many possible attributes of Spiritualist Mediums so it was no surprise when Alfredo was invited to attend another séance with three of his professors. The boy went as a courtesy, but against his personal choice.

On the table was a paper pointer for use with a wooden Ouija board. While being held by the participant’s fingertips, it moved by itself marking the letters of the alphabet chosen to be revealed. The séance began, and this was the initial conversation which took place:

“Will you answer us?”

“Yes; but the pointer must be of wood.”

“We have not got one.”

“I have already made one, and you will find it in the kitchen in a stewing-pan.”

A wooden pointer was found in a saucepan.

“Where did you make it?”

“At Bari”

He indicated the road and the house where there was a carpenter’s shop.

This case was not only documented by Dr. Guiseppe Lapponi (1851-1906), the chief physician to Pope Leo XIII, but also appeared in numerous Italian newspapers.

A few days passed quietly, but then the family was terrified by strange noises and phenomena. Pictures fell face down while plates, glasses and bottles were thrown against the walls and broken into pieces. Furniture moved around without anyone touching it. The family concluded that their house was haunted by evil spirits. A priest was called and went through the prescribed process to remove them. The priest later said, “Even the most liberal application of prayers and holy water produced no results.” Tables were overturned and chairs broken just as before. There were all kinds of sweets, candy, and chocolate instantly brought to the family by the invisible entities.

Alfredo described a battle taking place between the good and the bad ghosts. Next the boy began to walk mechanically and answer questions concerning things which he could not know about. They took Alfredo to church. There he became sleepy, but woke up as the bishop called his name. He remained with the bishop for several days, and then returned to his parents without much change. For example, one day Alfredo and his brother Paolo were playing near Ruvo at 9 a.m. Seconds later they were found at the Capucine convent at Malfatti (some thirty miles away).

On another day the whole family was sitting down to lunch at 12:30 p.m. There was no wine, so Paolo was sent for it. He did not return. Close to half an hour later Alfredo suddenly disappeared in front of his parents. At 1 p.m. both boys were found together on an off shore fishing boat not far from the port of Barlatta. They began to cry, and the fisherman, frightened almost out of his mind by their sudden appearance, took them ashore. A coachman who knew them suddenly appeared and took them home. After a rapid drive of half-an-hour they arrived home at 3:30 p.m.. In the same manner they were later instantly teleported to Bisceglie, Giovinazzi, Mariotti, and Ferlizz, then brought back to their parents in the ordinary way by the same coachman who, again, suddenly appeared.

Dr Raffaelo Estugno and other scientists investigated their cases, but they either came to no conclusion, or avoided giving the only reasonable explanation which, apart from the unexplained, would mean that the boys had somehow been instantly teleported by unknown means. Regarding all their other occult activities, it would make sense to remember that the Spiritualists were looking at this case as a way to confirm their beliefs to an unbelieving world. It's entirely possible that it was more about real ST than any paranormal or supernatural explanation.

Carlos Mirabelli was a Brazilian medium and spiritualist from Sao Paulo, Brazil. He was known for performing levitation and telekinesis, but his most impressive power was spontaneous teleportation. In 1926, Mirabelli was about to board a train traveling from Sao Paulo to the port of Santos with some friends. Mirabelli walked towards the platform and vanished into thin air. It was the middle of the day and he did this in front of dozens of witnesses. They said he faded into a foggy haze as if he was becoming erased from existence. Mirabelli’s friends were surprised at his sudden spontaneous vanishing, but things got even stranger when a station master approached them a few minutes later telling them that they had a call from Mirabelli himself. When his friends spoke to him on the phone, he claimed that he was suddenly in the town of Sao Vincente, which was 56 miles away from the train’s destination. He provided proof by putting random rail employees on the phone to prove his location.

The well-known ST case of Geraldo & Raffa Vidal occurred in 1968. During this incident the couple  teleported a long distance while in their car. They were driving along a road in Chascomus, a province of Buenos Aires in Argentina, when they were suddenly enveloped in a thick fog and became unconscious. After the Vidals failed to make it to their destination on time, family members and authorities went to search for them on the road they had taken. No trace of them was found. Around 48 hours later, Geraldo Vidal called the family to inform them that he and his wife were safe, but for some reason unknown to them, they were in Mexico City, which was about 4000 miles away from where they were driving to. A drive there for any reason would have taken much longer.

Vidal claimed that they had no recollection of what occurred during the 48 hours that they had disappeared without a trace. All the couple remembered was that they encountered a strange, heavy fog before everything turned black. When they became conscious again, the couple found themselves parked along an unfamiliar road and felt pain in their necks. When they got out of their car, the vehicle looked like it had been burned by a blowtorch. This case remains unsolved and is one of the most provocative among real-life teleportation incidents.
