The Myth Of The Bicycle Wheel Religious Belief

The Myth Of The Bicycle Wheel Religious Belief

Somewhere in the early days of my life's journey as a Born-Again Christian I kept hearing about the religious “bicycle wheel”. Ecumenical minded church leaders expounded the idea that the journey to God is like a bicycle wheel. Each spoke represents a religion and all lead to the center, which is God. It's a well meaning, humanistic kind of observation which allows people of all faiths to celebrate their religious journey. It's also wrong.

I cringe when I watch these ecumenical gatherings on TV or read about upcoming events. One advertised “Liturgical Dancing”. These kinds of beliefs and events do not lead people to God, they lead them astray. Don't get me wrong. I am not against anyone practicing the religion of their choice or having their own set of beliefs, even if they differ from mine. What concerns me is the end result.

The New Testament of the Bible tells us in John 14:6: "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me". This verse is Jesus' response to the disciple Thomas, declaring that He is the exclusive path to the Father (God) and that His death and resurrection provide the only way to reconciliation and a relationship with Him.

No one can come to God through religious practices or worship services. If you examine many of the religions or belief systems that adhere to the “bicycle wheel” idea you will realise that they have all lessened or eliminated the need for Jesus as the sole source of redemption with God. Instead, their emphasis is on coming together to worship God en masse. They hope to bring salvation to the world  through a common venture instead of a sinless, sole Savior.

Many of these religions have accepted corrupt translations of the Bible which emphasize works and worship practices over the free gift of Salvation that is offered through Jesus Christ. Some attack His deity directly by using the term “young woman” instead of “virgin” as it relates to His miraculous birth. Others use lines drawn through blank spaces instead of text in places where there are verses that disagree with their false beliefs. Still others have their own book instead of, or in addition to, the actual Bible.

I recently saw an online ad for a seminary promising spiritual fulfillment and proper ministerial training. The school is attached to the ecumenical movement. I met a pastor who graduated from that school. When I questioned him about the school's lack of adherence to Scripture, he said, “We don't want to be limited in our growth by a paper pope.” I could hardly believe what I was hearing. To deny the Word of God is to deny Jesus.

"In the beginning was the Word" is the opening phrase of the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible, specifically John 1:1. This verse introduces Jesus Christ, referred to as "the Word" (or Logos in Greek), as a pre-existent, divine being who was with God and was God from eternity, and who was instrumental in creation. The phrase echoes Genesis 1:1, emphasizing the eternal nature of Christ and his foundational role in the universe.

Do not make the mistake of believing that false teaching, in the form of a religion or belief system, will offer you salvation. Neither will trying to earn it by works or religious practices. The Bible clearly states in Ephesians 2:8-9: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast". This verse says it all: Romans 6:23: "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord".

You cannot earn a gift, it is always free. You can accept the gift of Salvation through Jesus Christ by praying a simple prayer asking Him to come into your heart and save you. If you are already a Christian, tell someone you know, or meet in the course of your day, how to accept Jesus. Nothing brings people to God better than personal soul winning.
