SEX IN JAPAN?.You Bet!

by Bill Knell

Sex Tourism to Japan is at an all time high. It's not at all unusual to see an average of twenty to thirty Japanese girls gather in places like a park in Shinjuku’s Kabukicho district in Tokyo just after dark. Why? To make money! Before long the girls are joined by lots of guys looking for gorgeous, petite, oriental gals ready for action in the sack. However, nothing is free these days and neither are they.

There are strict rules of etiquette for this, as there are for everything else in Japan. That's at least part of the reason that Japanese men come to sow their wild oats. Dating rituals there border on the ridiculous. Things like touching, holding hands and such are forbidden until the third date. Everyone hates the three date rule, but they all follow it.

The local men are joined by increasingly large numbers of Foreigners who feel more comfortable doing it with a typically submissive Japanese girl. But first, they have to choose a lover and that involves an introduction and negotiation. A guy walks up to one of the Park Girls and asks, “Are you standing?” If so, it's time to discuss the price. There are no pimps. Girls quote their own prices and conditions. Both parties come to an agreement, or walk away.

While all this sounds neat and clean, it isn't. There are many hidden dangers. Some of the girls, especially those that are underage, are there to lure clueless local guys and Foreigners to a place where they are likely to be robbed and beaten. Well informed foreign guys go to Okubo Park in groups with an interpreter.

Let me be clear. Prostitution in Japan isn't legal. The big difference is that their laws don't apply to those hiring girls, which adds to the overall confusion. That's why so many guys show up. It's the girls that can be arrested, not their “dates”. Most Park Girls prefer to deal with Foreigners because they would not be undercover police officers. By the way, the laws there only apply to paying for penetration (actual intercourse).

In Japan everything is about “saving face,” (not being embarrassed). Politicians do not want to bring attention to the Park Girls or others. They feel that additional laws would invite hot debate and lots of media attention. Many in the Japanese Government feel that Prostitution should be legal, licensed and controlled. That would also clear the streets of the many underage amateurs out there now.

Being arrested may be the least of the problems that the Park Girls face. Some are beaten by Japanese guys trying to alleviate built up frustration and passion caused by their over-ritualistic lifestyle. Others get STDs (Socially Transmitted Diseases), mostly from Foreigners, then pass those on. Japanese girls sell themselves on the street to avoid the hostess clubs, where they primarily act as (officially) nonsexual dates. They receive tips, but these bars take part of their earnings. Underage girls are not welcome at those clubs, so they end up on the street. An online friend who recently came back from Japan texted me saying, “If they do not admit there's a pay for sex problem, they will not have to define or deal with it.”

Girls who understand the law regarding penetration often fearlessly walk around in public wearing a box that covers their bosom. The box has two large holes; one on each side. These “Box Girls” allow guys to reach in and fondle their breasts for a fee. Yes, it's completely legal!

These situations illustrate the fact that there is SEX IN JAPAN. Everybody wants it, some pay for it, but nobody wants to talk about it. All that Japanese ritualistic dating stuff has caused a serious decline in marriages and births. Their government does talk about that, but they are unsure what to do about it? One answer may be newly created sex classes. Married and unmarried couples are taught better and more pleasurable ways to have intercourse, then do so in front of each other to help eliminate shyness. They are individually judged by the teachers.

An Internet rumor says that unmarried guys and girls over thirty will have to pay a special tax beginning in 2026. It's untrue. All they really need to do is loosen up and be a bit more modern in their approach to dating and relationships. In the meantime, go take a cold shower while I get online to find the best price for air travel to Japan.
