Betty's Story: Growing Up With Aliens
Betty's Story: Growing Up With Aliens
by Bill Knell
In the 1990s I met a woman named Betty. She saw my cable show UFOs OVER LONG ISLAND and called my UFO/Paranormal Hotline. She left a lengthy message and her phone number. I called her back and was so intrigued by what she told me that I accepted her invitation to come to her house with my friend Janet (a paranormal researcher and teacher at a junior college).
Betty felt she was a victim of Alien Abduction. She told me that she felt her alien abduction experiences started when she was a child and I already knew this to be a commonality among Abductees. Her earliest memory of these encounters was of a kangaroo appearing in her room when she was around seven years of age and many times after that. The creature moved around her bedroom in a manner that was more human than animal. Just as it came close to Betty, she recalled falling asleep or losing consciousness. That happened every time the animal came to visit.
Betty liked kangaroos because her mother used to read her a fictional book about one and that story became her favorite when she was very little. Although she originally thought the nighttime visits by the creature were dreams she was having, Betty eventually became convinced that she was really seeing the animal and told her mother about the visits. Her mother dismissed the whole affair as nothing and believed that Betty might just have an overactive imagination.
By the time she was nine years old Betty began to notice that small scars were appearing on her body. A couple were close to her ears, a few were on her back and others were very noticeable on both of her legs in the area just below her knees. Her mother became troubled by these scars and made inquiries about them with her teachers at school. Betty was interviewed by her mother, her teachers and a doctor. She could not remember where the scars came from and there was no evidence or any sort of injuries at home or at school to account for them. Abductees often exhibit these types of scars and most appear in the very areas where they were found on Betty’s body.
The nocturnal visits by the kangaroo continued until she was ten years old. The animal was replaced by a thin, grey, short and fragile looking being with a large head and big eyes. This entity began to speak with Betty and assured her that he (she believed it was male) had no intention of harming her. He went on to say that she had been chosen for a very special purpose.
Still too young to really understand the meaning of what the being was telling her, Betty was frightened and began to wet the bed thinking that what she was seeing might be a ghost. She had not wet her bed since she was six years old. Her mother became concerned about the bed wetting and when she asked Betty about it, she told her mother that she was too frightened to get up and use the bathroom. She said that a ghost was appearing in her room a few times a month and that she just wished it would stop coming to see her.
Betty’s mother was floored by the revelation about the ghost and brought her daughter to see a mental health specialist for testing. Nothing abnormal was found, but Betty was invited to meet with a counselor to share her experiences once a month. During this time another very strange thing happened. Someone who said they were attached to the State University of New York at Stoney Brook contacted her mother. This occurred in the 1960s. A woman known as Karen told Betty’s mom that the school was offering a unique opportunity to children that were randomly chosen from the local student body of nearby elementary schools.
The ‘opportunity’ involved a series of tests given to the chosen participants once a month. The tests were described as a battery of physical and psychological examinations designed to determine the rate of growth of the mental and physical abilities in the participants (or something to that affect). All that Betty’s mom had to do to allow her daughter to participate was to sign a paper. Betty would be picked up once a month on a predetermined date. The date would fall on a Saturday and the testing would run for about four to five hours each time. The payoff for those participating would be free college money that could be used anytime in the future at any N.Y. State school.
The offer looked like a win-win situation to Betty’s mom, so she signed her daughter up to participate in the study. Betty was picked up once a month for the testing from the time she was ten years old until she turned thirteen. At that time the study abruptly ended without explanation. When Betty’s mom tried to contact Karen at Stoney Brook, she found the phone number that was given to her as a point of contact had been disconnected. The office where Karen supposedly worked at Stoney Brook had been closed and no one seemed to know much about the study or why it suddenly ended.
Betty’s mother was frustrated because although the study had ended, there was no sign of the promised voucher for college money. She filed various complaints with a few different New York State departments, but each time she did she was told that they were not privy to the program in question. Apart from that, they could say very little else except that the problem had nothing to do with anything the State was involved with. That led Betty’s mom to assume that the program was federal.
Despite her best efforts to track the elusive and secretive study down, there was no trace of evidence that it ever even existed apart from what was told to her by Karen and the N.Y.S. agencies she contacted about the promised voucher. The on-campus area where the monthly testing sessions took place had been re-assigned to other uses by university personnel who had no idea what the space had been used for before it was made available to them.
By the time Betty turned thirteen, she was seeing more than one of the small grey beings. Up to five would appear in her room and approach her bed. Betty told us that she would ‘blank out’ and could not remember anything else except waking up the morning, but at least her bed wetting stopped.
Once she started High School the nocturnal visits appeared to subside. No additional scars were appearing on her body, but Betty did develop a strange ringing in her ears and some of her teeth started to hurt for no good reason. A visit to her dentist when she was sixteen years old revealed something very strange: She had a hole in one tooth that looked as though it had been purposely drilled with laser precision.
The tooth hurt her for a while, then stopped hurting altogether. Her dentist was at a loss to explain the hole and mentioned to her that he had seen this sort of thing in just a handful of other patients over the years. Neither she nor the dentist knew that such a hole in a tooth was a commonality among people who experience the alien abduction phenomenon. Others find holes in the lower part of the outside area of their ears. Betty’s ears did occasionally ring, but no hole was noticeable.
As she finished her junior year in High School, Betty tried to plan for her future. She had excellent grades and excelled more in math and science than in any of her other subjects. This is also typical among Abductees. Her hope was to become a pathologist or medical researcher, so Betty began to speak with career counselors at her school and started the process necessary to apply to colleges and universities. After finding that there were probably enough grants and student loans to help her cover most of her college costs and expenses, Betty had high hopes for a fulfilling life doing what she wanted to do. Fate had other ideas.
Betty stood about five feet and six inches tall by the time she was a senior in high school. She was of average weight for her height and occasionally played on a couple of her school’s sports teams to satisfy her mother who felt such things looked good on school transcripts.
Just after she turned seventeen half way through her senior year, Betty found herself with several close girlfriends and no boyfriends. She was not what anyone would consider ugly by any stretch of the imagination, but just did not have the kind of self-confidence that it took to get involved with any sort of serious dating situations. In truth, she was afraid of boys. Her mother married young and got a divorce from her husband shortly after Betty was born. Her father had never been a part of her life and this added to her fear and distrust of males.
Betty had gone out on just three dates all during her time in high school up to that point. Betty had not yet been intimate with a boy. The most she did was kiss them goodnight. That was why she was completely confused when it came time for her normal period just after her seventeenth birthday and none occurred.
After she was nearly four weeks late Betty finally decided to see a doctor. She was concerned and confided in her mother. Her mother didn’t know how to react. Betty was the kind of child who rarely, if ever, lied to her mother. The two had a close and friendly relationship. This brought great concern that Betty might have some sort of illness, since there was no way she could be pregnant.
A visit to the doctor revealed the impossible: Betty was pregnant. Examining her hymen was worthless in this instance because it had been damaged due to physical activity when she was younger. Betty, her mom and her doctor already knew this. The hymen is a membrane that surrounds or partially covers the external vaginal opening. Doctors say it can be broken or damaged by certain types of physical activity, incorrect use of tampons or sex.
There was no way that Betty ever had sex with anyone. The only possibility was that she had somehow been sexually assaulted without her knowledge. She figured that this might have occurred during a deep sleep, or if she was somehow drugged. The problem with that theory was opportunity.
Betty never brought any boys into her room or allowed one to sleep over. Although she occasionally went to sleep-overs at two of her friends houses, these were girls-only events. Each time she slept over, Betty slept in the same bed with several other girls making it impossible for anyone to rape her in her sleep or in some kind of a drugged state without the others knowing about it. Just for the record, Betty and her mom were religious people who did not smoke, drink or use illegal drugs. Her mother rarely dated and never allowed any men to sleep over, so the possibility that one of her mom’s boyfriend’s might be responsible for Betty’s pregnancy was equally ludicrous.
During this time Betty started seeing the little grey beings again. They came into her room on four occasions during the two months after she found out she was pregnant. During her fourth month of pregnancy, Betty was still not really showing and hadn’t told any of her friends about her condition. She did discuss it with the pastor of her church, but otherwise kept the matter a family secret. Then another strange thing happened.
After yet another nocturnal visit by the grey beings, Betty woke up and felt very odd. She was nearing her fifth month of pregnancy and wondered if the changes to her body were causing her odd feelings? She couldn’t put her finger on it, but something wasn’t right. Two days later she got her period and immediately went to see her doctor. To everyone’s shock, Betty was no longer pregnant. In fact, it was almost as if she had never been pregnant. Even stranger, she found herself with a complete and undamaged hymen membrane back in place!
Just when Betty was about to give up on looking for answers, she watched a TV show about the famous Betty and Barney Hill alien abduction case. Some of the things that Betty Hill said happened to her seemed to fit what was happening in Betty’s own life. That really freaked her out. The fact that the little grey beings had come back was also very upsetting. She hoped to have put all those experiences behind her, but there was no way that could happen with the unsolved mystery about her pregnancy and renewed virginity.
The pregnancy incident and continued nocturnal visits by the grey beings derailed Betty’s plans to attend college. With all that was happening in her life, Betty couldn’t even begin to imagine trying to deal with the kinds of stresses and academic load that attending college classes would place on her. After graduating high school, Betty took the unusual step of moving far away from familiar surroundings. She took a job with a relative in Alaska.
After settling into a small apartment in Anchorage, she started her new job as a security guard for a company owned by her uncle. It was night work, so she hoped that by staying awake she would not be visited by the grey beings. Although she did not remember their visits, she had instances of missing time at work that could not be accounted for on at least two or three nights each month.
Betty remained at her job in Alaska for four years, than decided it was time to move back home and try to regain what she could of her life. After returning to her home town on Long Island, Betty found an apartment and took the positive step of signing up for night classes at a small local college. She decided to pursue a career in law enforcement. After two years, she received a certificate of completion and managed to get hired as a Court Officer in Suffolk County.
At the age of thirty, she found herself alone and with more questions than answers about what was happening to her. It was then that another change took place in her life. She began to remember more of what happened to her each time the grey beings appeared. They would come in through her bedroom window and take her out of it with them to a disc-shaped craft that hovered nearby.
On one particular nighttime visitation the beings seemed especially anxious and handled her more roughly than usual. Once aboard their craft, they poked and prodded her with various instruments and finally pushed some sort of device into her vagina which caused her a great deal of physical discomfort. Whatever happened, they did not seem happy with the result and quickly returned her to her bed.
Three nights later a bright glow illuminated her bedroom. Betty woke up and ran to the window. She saw the craft, but not the beings. The object stayed around a few minutes, then vanished before her eyes. Upset, Betty stayed up and put on her TV. A few minutes later there was a blackout. She walked outside and noticed that all the street lights were out, as well as all the lights on other properties.
With nothing else to do, Betty went back to bed and fell into an unusually deep sleep. When she woke up the next morning she felt a weird pressure in the area of her vagina. That pressure came and went for over a month. When she missed her period, Betty immediately made a doctor’s appointment. To her amazement, she was again pregnant despite not having been intimate with a man for some time.
She didn’t even bother to tell her doctor about the bizarre circumstances of her pregnancy. She just decided to go with it and see what happened. Betty noticed several scoop-like scars that appeared on her inner thigh just after the blackout. Her doctor also noticed, but could not account for them or explain how they got there.
Betty’s pregnancy lasted for over four months. Late in her fourth month, the beings came back and took her out to their craft again. This time her visit was a long one. Betty was sure that she had been on the craft for at least five or six hours before she was returned. She recalled the entire incident. Once again the beings poked and prodded her. They also used the same device they had used previously and again pushed it into her vagina. Concerned that they would hurt her baby, Betty yelled at them. She was ignored.
After that visit, Betty was no longer pregnant. Her hymen membrane had not been replaced this time. She began to read various books that were now available about UFO abductions and realized that the beings were likely impregnating her with a fetus, then removing it when it suited them to create a hybrid. The good news for her was that the removal marked the end of her alien abduction
experiences. For whatever reason, it seemed that the grey beings were finished with her and she could not have been happier about that. Betty continued her career as a court officer. She also found love, married and had two children.
