Barbara's Story: Ghosts and Aliens

Barbara's Story: Ghosts and Aliens

by Bill Knell

The entanglement between UFOs and the paranormal became more apparent to me after a retired Stock Broker whom I will call Barbara phoned my UFO Hotline shortly after she heard my guest spot on WABC Talkradio 77 in New York City. My wife happened to hear part of her call on the answering machine while Barbara was still on the phone leaving a message. She picked up the receiver and spoke with Barbara for almost two hours before inviting her to come to our house and share her experiences with us. My wife told me that I would be astonished at her story and she was right. Barbara came over with a friend. Both of them shared an apartment in Manhattan, although Barbara also had a house out in Suffolk County on Long Island. The first thing that Barbara told me was that she had felt ‘haunted’ by ghosts from the time that she was a child. Her earliest memory of these experiences was of an incident that occurred when she was six years old and living at a house in a suburban New Jersey neighborhood. It was at that time that a person who looked like her deceased great-grandmother started appearing to her during late night hours when everyone else was asleep. The woman would ‘float’ into her bedroom through an open door.

Unlike your typical ghost, this one seemed to be solid and apart from the floating motion, could have easily been a real person that came to visit her. Instead of talking about familiar things like family or her life, this ‘ghost’ spoke of the future telling Barbara that she was meant for great things and needed to help humanity. In order to do this, the great-grandmother told her that some ‘doctors’ would come and examine her from time to time. Barbara always thought that the part about the doctors seemed even more weird than the nighttime ‘ghost’ visitation itself, but she was much too young to sort it all out.

The doctors did start coming into her room on a regular basis. When they did, she had long lapses of memory and no idea what happened to her during those sessions. The great- grandmother stopped appearing to her after Barbara turned thirteen, but the doctors kept coming until she was well into her early forties and there was more. Barbara would occasionally see what she called ‘phantom animals’ on her windowsill or elsewhere in her room. Most were cats, dogs or even monkeys and these sometimes replaced the doctors. She also noted that her bedrooms in New York City and Long Island would almost always fill with bright lights during these events which she interpreted as some sort of ‘spiritual’ presence.

Although she tried to get involved with different environmental studies while in college, Barbara was always very good at math and got drawn into the stock market by a mutual friend that found success in that field. Barbara was disappointed that she did not seem to be living up to the prophecies offered by her deceased great-grandmother to become some sort of a world-changing personality. Now a woman in her late fifties, she was as confused as she was successful.

During the call-in portion of the radio show on Talk Radio 77 some people asked me about Alien Abductions and wondered about some of the signs that would lead a person to believe that they were experiencing that part of the UFO phenomenon. I went through a short list of signs pointing to the Abduction scenario which included seeing beings that could ‘mask’ themselves as dead relatives or even friendly creatures like cats or dogs. UFO close encounters, lights in a room, missing time and memory lapses topped off my list. This intrigued Barbara whose experiences easily fit that profile.

The friend that came along with Barbara told me that she had witnessed strange lights in the apartment that she and Barbara shared in Manhattan from time to time. She also reported that on several occasions when the light appeared, Barbara disappeared! She was suddenly gone when her friend came into her bedroom to check on the lights, then she was back hours later when they woke up in the morning. Both of these women agreed that although she felt ‘haunted’ by ghosts from the time she was a little girl, Barbara’s encounters were better explained by the Alien Abduction scenario that I described during the radio show.

After carefully listening to everything that was said, I gave Barbara some literature that I had available on Alien Abductions and referred her to a support group of ‘Abductees’ which met on a regular basis in New York City. I also told her to contact noted artist, author and alien abduction researcher (the late) Budd Hopkins (author of books like “Missing Time’ and ‘Intruders’). I knew Budd and he was kind enough to appear on two episodes of my cable TV show.

Just as we were about our say our goodbyes, Barbara’s friend encouraged her to tell me about something else that often happened in her life which might be related to the Abductions. Barbara was very hesitant, but ultimately spilled the beans about her ability to ‘sense’ or predict certain events. She knew when a phone was going to ring, when someone was going to visit her, and often used her ‘intuition’ to make money and help others to make money in the Stock Market. As if to make the point, she accurately predicted the two times that my house phone rang just before it did during her visit. She also told me that the door bell would ring and that a neighbor was coming by to see my wife. That also happened just as she predicted.

Although I didn’t ask Barbara to appear on my cable TV show, I did ask her permission to share parts of her story with my cable TV and seminar audiences. She was fine with that and I began sharing her amazing encounters almost immediately. I felt that there must be others out there who experienced similar phenomena and might benefit from knowing they were not alone in their experiences. I was right.
